Mold

Mold is a fungus, which can be found in any location, indoors or outside, provided there is a supportive surface, warm temperatures, a supply of nutrient and moisture. Since the early 1990's, mold has become a controversial indoor environmental issue when it's presence was detected in buildings throughout North America.

Mold is commonly found in water damaged buildings, Common sites for indoor mold growth includes bathroom tile, basement walls, area around windows where moisture condenses, and near leaky water fountain or sinks. Common sources or causes of water or moisture problems includes roof leaks, localized flooding due to plumbing failures or heavy rains, and slow leaks in plumbing fixtures. Mold will also cause the deterioration of building materials (wood, paper and cotton products) if left unattended. Moisture control is the key to mold control.

If moldy substances are disturbed or damaged this causes spores to be released into the air. These mycotoxins are easily absorbed by the human body via airways and the skin.

Mold should be removed or disturbed only under controlled conditions to keep the chances of spreading the contamination to other areas down.

Inadequate or incomplete corrective action will ultimately add cost and potentially increase the amount of work necessary for complete correction.

We at Alternative Technologies Inc. invite you to put us to the test. We have a knowledgeable staff and properly trained and experienced workers for mold remediation. We have a complete understanding of our customer concerns and expectations.

Air Duct Cleaning

How Clean is the Air You Breathe?

Fact  - Most people spend 60% to 90 % of their time indoors (American Lung Association).

Fact  - More than 50 million Americans suffer from allergies. The level of some hazardous pollutants in indoor air has been found to be up to 70 times greater than outdoor air (USEPA).

Fact  - Children and the elderly are especially affected by polluted indoor air (Department of Consumer Affairs).

Fact - Studies have shown that two out of three indoor air quality problems involve the HVAC system. Mold, pollen and dust are just a few of the ingredients that make up the refuse in your heating & air conditioning duct system. Duct cleaning provides allergy relief, eliminates odors and reduces dust.

Airborne contaminants are drawn through the duct work of the central air conditioning system via return air registers. Standard filters remove less than 7% of these particles, which means much of the rest settles in your air ducts.

Now acknowledged as a major allergy and disease causing problems by leading medical authorities, poor indoor air quality has prompted doctors and allergists to commonly prescribe air duct cleaning as a remedy.

If you question the need for air duct cleaning, take a look behind the return air grills in the HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) system of your home. Many people have found that one glimpse into their air ducts provided all the evidence they need to initiate a thorough cleansing of the HVAC system.

A residential air duct cleaning job takes just a few hours and is a surprisingly clean and routine process. While making your home's air safer, duct cleaning can also reduce heating and cooling costs.

Duct Cleaning could be
the healthiest home improvement you will ever make.
